Miles, Adrian. "Vogbook 1." Inflect 2 (2004). http://www.ce.canberra.edu.au/inflect/02/miles/link.htm
A pdf 'scroll' that contains three, embedded interactive movies. This is an experiment in 'movie books'.
The VogBook is a an interactive QuickTime work that is published and presented via PDF. It requires Adode Acrobat Reader to work (simple pdf viewers, such as Apple's Preview can't handle the embedded QuickTime). Adobe supports the embedding of QuickTime, which means it is possible to use PDF to create 'movie books' and 'radio books' - something I sometimes do with my students. This is something that offers enormous possibilities, but as far as I'm aware they are completely unrealised (just think what this offers for a discipline such as cinema studies!).
This particular work was originally published in inFlect, an online journal for creative writing. It consists of the stubs and visible remnants of my travelling through part of Europe a few years ago, and some interactive QuickTime works that I made with material that I shot and published at the time. The videos, which will play when you click on them, are not merely embedded video but are interactive so mouse enters generally do things.
