New Media Announce Email List

This was an email announcement list that I created a maintained for the three years. I simply sent out all call for papers and exhibitions that I received that were loosely relevant to new media, with a particular emphasis on hypertext. It had a subscription base of approximately 200 people and a digest was distributed daily.

It was stopped with the development of the Fibreculture Announce email list and I decided that the Fibreculture list, while more constrained to material relevant to Australasia, had a larger subscriber base and would be a more effective service.

In retrospect this was perhaps a mistake, simply because newmedia announce was 'edited' to the extent that material was collated and filtered by me, whereas Fibreculture announce relies on individuals submitting relevant material and then it passing who ever is currently moderating the list.

The newmedia announcement list was originally hosted on a Macintosh (pre OS X days) server running nnn, but I then migrated it to the University of Bergen's mailman server for the rest of its existence. The page on the original hypertext.rmit site that provided basic information about the list is still available at http://hypertext.rmit.edu.au/lists/newmedia.html.
