My Hands

This is a very simple work that is beginning to reintroduce text into the video. Here the text is a layer in the movie, and mousing into the grey square sends a mouse event that simply changes the layer of the text – placing it on top of the video. Mousing out of the square returns the text to its original layer. This is possible because QuickTime, much like Photoshop, consists of layers and multiple objects (eg two video tracks) can exist on different (or the same) layer.

The content is made up of photographs of my hand, most of them photographed by me, and video shot on my mobile phone. I’ll leave it up to others to think about why hands (I’ve no idea).

Digital Arts and Culture 2007

Since the original DAC in 1998, the ongoing Digital Arts and Culture conference series has established itself as one of the more vibrant academic and creative forums for digital doing. (Self interest warning, I chaired MelbourneDAC in 2003.) The next one, in 2007, has partnered with the Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth (BEAP) and should be a corker. PerthDAC, abstracts due August 14th.
