This is the video blog of Adrian Miles. I have been putting videos online in a blog since 2000, and this earlier work is currently located at http://hypertext.rmit.edu.au/vog/ and more recent work at http://vogmae.net.au/vlog/tag/vog/, you’ll also find my more regular blog at http://vogmae.net.au/vlog/

All of this material will be migrated here, partly because it is lost in these two other locations, and also because I wanted to return to a more video specific blog for my video practice. I have written a vog manifesto, a variety of academic come theoretical works about video online and, well, that’s the gist of it.

I have pretty strong views about the future of video blogging which, in a nutshell, sees the majority of current practice as the video equivalent of web 1.0, which confused being able to publish and distribute online with actually working and being online as the place of your practice. This means I make videos that really generally only can work on a computer via the network, whether this is through the use of links or alternative temporal structures or other things is not really the point. Well, it is, but this is just where I think-in-doing about what video online can do, in the hope that someone smarter and more gifted than I is inspired to actually work out what to do with it.

I make no promises that the materials work. They work on my current (mac) laptop with my current installation of QuickTime and that’s good enough for me. It’s a lab people, it ain’t meant to work all the time for everyone.
