Danish Snow
created: 12 May 2004

Filmed on a domestic digital still camera from the train while travelling from Copenhagen (aka København) to Amsterdam. The snow arrived while still in Denmark and travelling through the countryside was quite beautiful.

This repeats the structure of the Brussels Park work where I started to play with a diptych structure. Here there is no sound, they are child movies that load into the parent movie independently of each other and so can have separate play states. Mousing into one accelerates the other, clicking a video track restores it to 1 fps - a deliberate stuttering sort of video.

I have used this particular video a lot in lectures and public presentations to help explain what I mean by softvideo. It is simple to explain and quite clear in terms of what it does, as well as working well content wise for material that works with a variable frame rate, low resolution, and what I think of as a type of abstraction.
