L'Aveu. (1969) Greek born Costa-Gavras (also known as Constantin
Costa-Gavras) studied comparative literature at the Sorbonne before
attending the Institut des hautes études cinématograhiques
(IDHEC). Famous for his political thrillers Costa-Gavras brings a
particular political history to his work as his father was a Greek
resistance fighter during World War II who was blacklisted by the right
wing Greek government after the war. Costa-Gavras was refused entry to
the United States and so undertook his studies in Paris, where he like
so many other members of the New Wave virtually lived at the Cinématheque
Français, an organisation he became director of in 1982. Much of
his work has featured Yves Montand. References
