Chilean born Guzmán, like his contemporary Miguel Littín, is a documentary maker who was highly active during the Allende years (1970-3). After Pinochet's coup Guzmán fled to France where he continued to work in a highly politicised documentary style. He has also lived and worked in Cuba and his project remains committed to the ideological project of a politically liberated Chile and South America.
