Cosmo becomes the film's muse, the creative sprite who is the source of all the crucial ideas (and significantly becomes the studio's musical director) while also being the harbinger of disorder and disruption. It is Cosmo's presence that leads Don's elocution class into chaos, and it is Cosmo's dancing in the "Make 'em Laugh" sequence that most approaches slapstick's comic recontextualising of the everyday object.
Indeed, while "Singin' in the Rain" remains the most famous dance sequence in the film (and possibly in the history of the musical) in terms of Singin' in the Rain it is noteworthy for being the moment in the film where Don most approaches Cosmo's creativity. Hence it is significant that this dance occurs after Cosmo has described how they can make "The Duelling Cavalier" into "The Dancing Cavalier", and in the process rescue Don's career and redeem the studio.
In general, as the creative engine of the film, Cosmo's dance style is characterised by its physical, bodily, and corporeal intensity.
